WELTSCHMERZ
CERTAIN FEAR
To Kate

Grief
a giant bull dozer
ran me down
I lay in utter shock
unable to draw breath
until my anger
restored me to my feet
I railed obscenities
shook my fist
at the mammoth beast
as it rolled along its path
oblivious to my rants
sobs shook my being
as I revisited every inch
of the past
to see what I had done
wrong
what I had done
to bring this on
I wept
as a black hole
took its place at my side
became a permanent depression
in my bed

I stride through life now
pretty much as I always did
normal
except for the recurring
snap of my head
as I check behind me
for that Caterpillar
