The EGADS ELECTION
TIMES HAVE CHANGED

When I was in 7th grade
boys went to mechanics shop
and girls went to cooking class
My progressive Mom told me
girls could be anything
a secretary
a teacher
a nurse
Yes, anything

I did go to college
(cost was fifty dollars a semester back then)
But my Dad informed me
my younger brothers
were his priority for college
It was a waste of money on a girl

I, along with many women since 1923
marched to pressure Congress
to pass the Equal Rights Amendment
Perhaps our Grand Daughters
will finally succeed
in adding equal rights
to the constitution

We have progressed
The pay differentiation
now is just about 80%
We still have a way to go
But girls
(now called women)
are doctor’s, lawyers, computer techs
and maybe even
President
