TREE TALES

LESSON FROM THE TREES

The trees don’t fret
about getting wrinkles
No fancy creams
to delay autumn
They don’t torment
themselves
wishing spring would
stay forever
They don’t clutch
at the heavy days
of summer
Trees never brag about
offering shade or bearing fruit
Leaves change color
in delight
a spectacular crescendo
on the October hillside
Not a sigh
as foliage turns brown
and drops
to the ground below
No guilt
as they stand naked
in the snow
Acceptance is the gift
they try to teach

Will we ever learn?
